Vanessa Julia Carpenter

Vanessa is a Technology Experience Designer with a passion for connecting people.

After working for more than 10 years in corporate environments in Canada, Vanessa moved to Scandinavia to complete a Master’s of Interaction Design at Malmo University in Sweden. She then joined the Collaborative Interactive Arts Studio: illutron, a floating maker space in Denmark and amidst fire cannons, dancers, and computer controlled lights, sounds and robots, she has contributed to creating a network and community of Makers, tinkerers, nerds, thinkers, and creatives throughout Denmark and Sweden.

Her company, GeekPhysical has worked to challenge the social domain throughout the world through interactive installations; Now she works in IdemoLab, using the same creative chaos methods to challenge the everyday, and create functional, hardware prototypes, tested in context, which truly explore the problem to find the right solution.

As a GTS, DELTA’s IdemoLab has the opportunity to create knowledge sharing events and Vanessa is focused on creating opportunities for people to creatively connect, through hackathons, labs, conferences, workshops, and a collection of alternative professional events (such as Bits & Beers or the annual Design Smart Products conference) whose goal is to get participant’s hands dirty, and create lasting connections. Many of these events engage communities, movements and external partners to reach a segment of people who might not otherwise explore this area. These partners include, for example, the Danish Design Centre, Underbroen, Republikken, Founders House, DAC, Topp, Attention Group, IDA, KEA, Holscher Design, and others.
